“Get Driving” is a therapy program and toolkit of clinic based and passenger based activities targeting the skills needed for driving.
The program ideally follows a “Potential to Drive” assessment with an OT driver assessor.
Get Driving program
This is an additional, optional program with the aim to prepare for driving lessons with the driving instructor. Your OTDA can discuss this further with you at your potential to drive assessment.
Get Driving therapy sessions usually provided at our clinic space at Stones Corner on Wednesdays.
If therapy sessions are at client’s home / other address, travel (time and kilometres) fees will apply.
Travel is charged based on the therapist diary on the day of the session: 30mins to each client; final client for the day is charged additional 30mins return.
Disclaimer:
OT Driver Assessors are NOT driving instructors; this is not driving training and does not count towards log book hours or replace driving lessons; rather these sessions are aimed at building processing, observation and planning skills, to be better prepared to undergo and participate in driving lessons with the specialised driving instructor.

The effects of an injury or getting older often have some impact on our ability to drive. Some people also have some bad habits, or may not be up-to-date with their road rules. In cases where there are some safety concerns and the client is aware of these and able to improve, the recommendation will be to have Driving Rehabilitation with the specialised driving instructor.
Lessons: will depend on your driving instructor and location – varies around $120/lesson
Re-assessment: Flat fee $550 including driving instructor lesson fee and progress report to GP
This will typically be required for clients following stroke, brain injury, cognitive impairment and vehicle modifications.
An additional $250 fee will be incurred for clients requiring vehicle modifications. (Insured clients will be charged the hourly rate as per NDIS service agreement or other insured approved quote).
